OUR HORSES
Chica
Chica is a stocky 18-year-old chestnut Quarter Horse who was trained as a reiner before hanging out as a pasture ornament. She’s one of our newer therapy horses and is quickly becoming a favorite!
Doc
Doc came to us after a career as a reining horse. He is a beautiful bay Quarter Horse at the age of 27. He is patient and steady with his riders, but to watch him run and play in his pasture, one would think he was a yearling.
Jake
Jake is a 10-year-old bay Thoroughbred. He was bred to race, but was too slow, so he worked the track as a “pony horse” that was ridden to manage the racing horses. He tried barrels and jumping before coming to RU. He is a spirited horse still in training for our more advanced riders. His personable, silly nature makes him a barn favorite!
Jazz
Jazz is a black and white pinto pony. She is 16-years-old still in training. She’s best friends with Chica and Precious.
Lady
Lady is a 22-year-old Arabian. She is able to perform all the paces required for students and her movements are beautiful. She shines at competitions and always takes care of her riders.
Nikki
Nikki is our newest therapy horse. She looks young but is actually 22 years old! She had a career as a hunter/jumper lesson horse before coming to RU. Her narrow build is comfortable for our riders with tight hips and legs and her happy demeanor makes her a volunteer favorite.SPONSORED FOR THE MONTH OF MAY BY M.B. KLUTH
Power Play
Power Play is a registered American Miniature Pony. He is our introduction to our smallest riders. They feel safe because he is so small. Some of his riders refer to him as their “toy horse.” He is 21 years old, and his best friend is Tony the miniature donkey.
Precious
Precious is a 22-year-old fleabitten grey Percheron. She worked for the Amish before coming to RU. She’s a “gentle giant” who takes good care of her riders.
Sienna
Sienna is an 8-year-old Quarter Horse. She was prepared for the show ring but was diagnosed with a degenerative bone disease that makes her unsuitable for competitive riding. She enjoys the easygoing life of a therapy horse!
Skipper
Skipper is a 22-year-old bay and white paint. He is a sensitive soul who will communicate when a rider is having heightened feelings or is unbalanced. Our volunteers and riders love his sweet nature.
Sonny
Sonny is a 22-year-old Quarter Horse. His chestnut coat glistens in the sunlight. He’s a stocky, confident gelding who is comfortable for first-time riders.
Sundance
Sundance is a 20-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse. Her breed is “gaited” which gives her a trot that feels like you’re sitting in a glider! She’s in training for lessons.
Teddy
Teddy is a beautiful 12-year-old black Shire. He has a background in dressage and is a great confidence builder for our more advanced riders. His playful, affectionate nature makes him a barn favorite.
Tex
Tex is a 27-year-old Quarter Pony retired from showing hunter/jumpers. He is spunky for his age but dependable and tolerant of his riders.
